Seamless patterns – how to make easily with GIMP
We have a white snow image with some rough destroyed snowballs that we would like to make seamless.
First open image in GIMP. We want to use it as background. However if we just tile the image as is, the result isn’t very good.
The easiest and fastest way to make it seamless and tiled in GIMP is by applying a Map Filter like this:
Go to Filters and choose Filters -> Map -> Make Seamless. The result is a seamless white snow texture with some snow bumps:
Now the resulting image is too small for our purposes. So we are going to make a really huge texture by making and applying this new texture as a pattern. In order to do this export the resulting seamless photo as pattern:
Edit -> Paste as -> New Pattern (Choose a unique name or your pattern will not be written)
Now create a new file with a really huge size. I’m going to make a 10000 x 10000 pixels large image and fill it with our new pattern:
Edit -> Fill with pattern
